Deutschtown organized its first house tour in 2006. Perhaps our community had just been too busy fixing homes up to show them off earlier. The results were good: more than 550 people showed up for each of the first three tours, generating funds for the ongoing revitalization of the neighborhood.
We received great personal and media reviews and a few new residents too! One couple moved from England and actually bought two homes here: one old Victorian and one new town home! A transplant from New York City raved that the neighborhood reminded him of Greenwich Village!
For the first two tours Deutschtown partnered with the Community Design Center of Pittsburgh who offered a simultaneous Design Fair for House and Garden. Our tour, combined with the 50+ exhibitors and home fixup events, makes our event the most unique in the region.
Our 2011 House Tour was our most successful to date! Stay tuned for future tours.
