Fresh produce cooking demonstrations by Northside Chefs, Fresh live music performances by Northside youth and Fresh family activities presented by neighborhood cultural institutions begins July 16, 2010 at the 2nd annual Fresh Fridays Series at the Northside Farmer’s Market.
Fresh Fridays at the Northside Farmers Market is sponsored by the Charm Bracelet Project Fund through the generous support of the Grable Foundation. With support from Allegheny General Hospital, Allegheny Center Alliance Church, Elm Street/Historic Deutschtown, and CitiParks Farmers Market. Fresh Fridays at Northside Farmer’s Market will happen every Friday, July 16th through September 3rd from 4:00pm – 6:00pm and include activities for the entire family that will include:

Chef’s Table
Chefs from Northside restaurants will prepare a simple summer dish made from ingredients purchased at the Farmer’s Market that day. The Chef’s will demonstrate the preparation, and samples of the dish will be available for tasting. The recipe will be made available to visitors and also the visiting chef will provide a recipe for their signature dish for visitors totake home and try. With these weekly recipes, visitors will also have the opportunity to create a cookbook made up of the recipes provided at the Chef’s Table. Northside restaurants represented on Fresh Fridays “menu” of Chefs includes Café at the Lofts, Modern Café, Bistro Soul, Clark Bar and Grill, Legends and many more

Youth Music
Four live performances will take place from 4:00 to 6:00 pm on the Fresh Friday’s stage.
July 23: The Pop Rocks. The Pop Rocks are a group of young, talented teens whose original songs deliver heartfelt messages and serious fun wrapped in a package that stands toe to toe with their interpretations of classic hits. The Pop Rocks are also known for their popular fan songs about Pittsburgh sports teams.
August 6: The KRUNK Movement (Kreating Realistic Urban New-School Knowledge). KRUNK is a student-lead music and health initiative that uses jazz, hip-hop, dance, recording engineering, visual art and equipment management to communicate positive messages about physical and mental health to teens and pre-teens.
August 13: The Zany Umbrella Circus. Zany Umbrella Circus builds and strengthens communities through education and folk artistry-- particularly puppetry, circus, music, storytelling, street theatre and visual arts. Zany Umbrella Circus uses art as a vehicle to further social change, promote dialogue, teach cooperation skills and encourage children of all backgrounds to use their imaginations and create artwork of their own.
August 20: Northside Urban Pathways Steel Pan Band: The Sounds of Steel. The Sounds of Steel is an extra-curricular ensemble comprised of the finest students from Northside Urban Pathways Charter School. The group performs locally throughout the academic year, including presentations at many events such as the Three Rivers Arts Festival and the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust’s Gallery Crawl.

Fresh Fridays Family Activities
Interactive activities of all shapes and sizes will be presented each week by cultural organizations from the Charm Bracelet Project that include Artists Image Resources, Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh, The Andy Warhol Museum, The Mattress Factory and more.
