Deutschtown Family Fun
Deutschtown, located in a village atmosphere close to urban parks and trails, museums, and downtown, presents fantastic family opportunities for Northside youth and families. World-renowned family hot spots such as the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh, PNC Park, and the National Aviary are great places for an outing, all within walking distance. Catch children’s theater at the New Hazlett Theater or play in the Saturday art studio at the Andy Warhol Museum. The Allegheny Riverfront, just a few blocks away, is an outdoor playground of bass fishing, boating, bike trials, feeding the ducks and kayaking. And, the neighborhood’s Northside Celebration in the Park, Pumpkinfest and the Holiday Community Tree Lighting offer heartwarming times for families to celebrate and mark the changing seasons, together..
Enriching Kids’ Lives
Deutschtown sports and music opportunities abound, as youth can join the swim team or participate in gymnastics, basketball, little league, music lessons and more through neighborhood organizations such as the Allegheny YMCA, Sarah Heinz House, and Urban Impact Foundation. Pittsburgh Parks and Recreation sponsors free summer programs such as swimming lessons at our neighborhood Sue Murray Pool and arts and crafts with the Roving Art Cart. Nearby Riverview Park offers horseback riding lessons while Brighton Heights Athletic Association hosts additional sports such as deck hockey.
Summer Camp options range from sleepover camp through Sarah Heinz House to day camp at the Allegheny Center Alliance Church. And, children can enjoy summer reading, nature and crafts programs and the teen room at the brand new Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh.
